Tz An Tsai | Pianist & Composer

Born and raised in Taiwan, pianist and composer Tz An Tsai bridges classical piano performance and electroacoustic composition in his artistic practice. After obtaining his Master's degree in Piano Performance from the Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK) in 2022, he has held piano recitals atthe National Concert Hall in Taipei and the Eslite Performance Hall.

Driven by a profound curiosity to push the boundaries of traditional music, Tsai transitioned into the field of experimental sound art upon completing his classical studies. He continued his education at ZHdK, studying computer music composition under Professor Thomas Peter, where he deeply explored the diverse possibilities of sound and spatial expression. Later relocating to Berlin, Germany, Tsai continued to expand his creative horizons by studying electroacoustic composition under Zeynep Toraman. His works integrate sound, visual media, and spatial experiences to construct multi-layered perceptual narratives, seamlessly intertwining his profound classical music foundation with contemporary art forms.

Beyond his compositional endeavors, Tsai formed the Petrichor Piano Trio in Zurich last year alongside violinist Juliette Hsieh and cellist Johannes Herzog (Note: corrected from 'Johannese'). The trio is dedicated to transforming music into a deeply sensory experience through sincere and nuanced interpretations, making their sound as profound and evocative as the scent of earth after rain. With their delicate and heartfelt performance style, they explore the subtle connections between music and space, as well as emotion and memory. In its founding year, the ensemble was invited by the Symphonie Orchester Schweiz to make its debut in Diessenhofen, which was met with enthusiastic acclaim. In the summer of 2026, the trio will embark on a tour in Taiwan, with highly anticipated performances scheduled at the National Recital Hall in Taipei and the Weiwuying Recital Hall in Kaohsiung.
